Sabbatical Summary - Week 3

Pastor’s Log - Sabbatical Date 3.2.5

Continuing to catch up on my Sabbatical updates... During Week 3, my parents and sister stayed at our house with us.  Here is a recap…

On Monday (May 13) , I got the kids up and off to school.  Then I had a conference call with an Everence financial planner who is helping us look at the big picture of our finances.  I spread some weed and feed on our lawn and Dad helped me change out a breaker in our house that had gone bad.  It was the one for our downstairs freezer and it kept tripping off. Thankfully, we always caught it in time that we did not loose anything.  But it had me a little nervous with our travel plans for this summer.  Dad and I worked a little more on repairing the fence and Maggie had her third soccer game.  This one they won!

On Tuesday, I got the kids up and off to school.  I did a little reading from the book Growing Young, worked on some paperwork and finances, and worked with Dad on the fence around the pool.  After getting the kids home from school, Maggie and I had her soccer practice and Silas had a soccer game.  That evening I worked on forms for Burkina Faso.

On Wednesday, I got the kids off to school, read Growing Young, and got some things lined up for our vans.  The green van needed new tires before our trip out west and the black van needed work done on the driver’s side door handle.  It had stopped working again and the air conditioning also stopped working.  Dad and I finished repairing/reinforcing all five sections of the fence around our "pool area."  Now I just need to power wash and stain it.  I didn’t get it done in time for Mother’s Day, but we did make really good progress and I am happy with the way that it has turned out so far.Maggie and I had soccer practice and then we had an online training session for our trip to Burkina Faso.  I worked some more on cleaning up those leaves, got a hair cut and watched Solo with my sister as she had never seen it.

On Thursday, after getting kids up and off to school, I dropped off the green van to get those tires.  I also cleaned up the pool area (Note: for those who don’t know, I should probably clarify that the house came with an in ground pool and has been pickled.  This means that it is full of sand with grass on top.  So when I refer to the pool area, it is not a pool per se) to make it so that Beth could use it as a play area for her babysitting kids. I did some work on the garden and leaves before going to Maggie’s soccer practice.  We had to leave practice early to attend the Laker Fine Arts night.  This year, all four of our kids were involved.  Elam was in the High School band and the fall musical reprisal.  Maggie was in the Junior High band, the fall musical reprisal, and had some visual art on display.  Josiah was in the beginning band and the spring musical reprisal and Silas was in the spring musical reprisal.  It was a fun way to recap and finish off the year of music at Lakers.

On Friday, Beth and I got the kids off to school, packed up and left for the Marriage Retreat at the Grand Hotel.  To learn more about that, check out the separate posting that I have made just about our weekend away…
