VBS Week

Pastor's Log - Sabbatical Date: 2-1-16 - 15:30
(Reflecting back on VBS Week)

It has been a full but good week. Monday morning was the first day of VBS at Bethel.  I helped Beth with getting the kids to VBS and then spent the morning working on some things that needed to get done.  We rested that afternoon and I fixed supper.  Then I took my three oldest with me to see Meghan Vogel in the parade.  We stuck around for the ceremony to honor her, but came home to have ice cream.  Beth took our youngest and went to her monthly Celiac Support Group meeting.

Tuesday was day two of VBS.   After getting the kids to the church, I worked on some more things at home and read some scripture.  In the afternoon,  we had a visit from a pastor friend who was in the area for a meeting.  We had a nice visit together and were able to send some of our unneeded baby stuff with her for her first grand baby who will be coming this fall.  That evening, our oldest had Abraham's Lot (a boy's club at Bethel).  They were getting together to launch the model rockets that they built.  The rest of us went to do some shopping.  I got a fishing pole and license so that my oldest and I can start fishing (one of his dreams for this summer).  Before heading home, we stopped at Blue Jacket Dairy for some ice cream.  They have 28 flavors of soft serve!  I personally enjoyed the Pina Colada.

Wednesday was day three of VBS.  Because of Elaine's surgery prep for Thursday, I filled in for her by leading the creative response station (ie. snack and craft).  We were doing the story of Jesus calming the storm so we made bottles with a boat inside.  The kids made the storm by shaking the bottle and then calmed it.  We also did origami boats.  It was pretty fun.  That afternoon, we had a friend of my oldest over and I went to get materials to build some Square Foot Garden boxes from the restore.  I built one and planted green beans in it.

Thursday was day four of VBS.  I did some reading about Square Foot Gardening in the morning and put supper in the crock pot.  That afternoon, we went to run some errands together and made a stop at the Bellefontaine Library.  After supper, Beth went grocery shopping and I built a second Square Foot Garden box.

Friday was the last day of VBS.  I rode my bike and dropped some stuff off at the church, went to the bank, and finished planting our plot in the community garden.  Then I roped off the grid for the second SFG box before walking to the church to pick up our youngest.  I brought him home for lunch and a nap while Beth took the older three with her to the park for the VBS wrap-up picnic.  Once that was done, I met them back at the church to work on putting things back in order for Sunday.  Then I took the older three with me to get some things from Lowe's, get movies from the video store using the "A's" on their grade cards, and pick-up some supplies for supper.  We had pizza and watched the movie Inkheart.

Today (6-16-12), we have spent time lounging around the house.  I installed a new doorbell as the old one has not been working.  Beth went in to see the doctor and I am trying to let her rest as she seems to be having the start of another Chron's flare-up.  It has been a very good but very full week.  I am looking forward to next week and a chance for us all to recoup a bit before things get busy again.
