The One Year Chronological Bible - Week 39 Reflection Questions

Week 39 (Sept. 21-27): Nehemiah 5:14-19, 11:1-13:31; I Chronicles 9:1-34; Malachi; Joel; Matthew 1:1-4:11; Mark 1:1-13; Luke 1:1-4:15; John 1:1-2:25

As you read through these passages of the Bible, reflect upon these questions individually, through journaling, in pairs, or in small groups...

1. (9/21) In the final chapters of Nehemiah, we read of the return of the exiles to Jerusalem.  How do you imagine this felt for those who had been exiled to return?  What would be a modern parallel of this?
2. (9/22) In Nehemiah 12, we read of the dedication of Jerusalem's wall.  This included purification of the people, the gates and the wall and two choirs.  Why was this accomplishment so significant for the people?  What did the wall represent to them?  What do walls represent to us today and if the symbolism is different, how so?
3. In Nehemiah 12, we read of the provisions for temple worship.  This included contributions, first fruits, and tithes.  What does this example have to say to us today in the use of our resources?
4.

May the Lord bless and shape us through our individual reading and corporate study of His word this year.
