The One Year Chronological Bible - Week 26 Reflection Questions

Week 26 (June 22-28): Amos 7:1-9:15, 2 Kings 14:28-18:12, 2 Chronicles 26:22-29:2, Isaiah 1:1-20, 6:1-12:6, 17:1-14, 28:1-29, Micah 1:1-16, Hosea

As you read through these passages of the Bible, reflect upon these questions individually, through journaling, in pairs, or in small groups...

1. (6/22) In Amos 7, the prophet recounts a number of visions that he had.  At the end of the first two (locusts and fire), he expresses his concern to God and God relented.  How do we understand the meanings of these visions then?  What does this teach us about who God is?
2. Amos 7 has a third vision of a plumb line in which God named coming destruction.  If we were to receive a vision with the same meaning today, would the Lord still use a plumb line?  What other imagery might he use for contemporary audience?
3.  Amaziah the priest challenged Amos and told him to go away, yet Amos continued to speak.  Who are modern day prophets that bring a word that people don't want to hear?  How do we discern what is from the Lord and what is from people?
4. In Amos 8, the word of the Lord focuses in on the way that the people are treating the poor.  Is this still a word for us today?  If so, how are we to respond?  If not, what might God have to say to us?
5.

May the Lord bless and shape us through our individual reading and corporate study of His word this year.
