Week 31 (July 27-Aug 2): Isaiah 58:1-66:24, 2 Kings 20:20-23:28, 2 Chronicles 32:32-35:19, Jeremiah 1:1-6:30, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah 1:1-2:7
As
you read through these passages of the Bible, reflect upon these
questions individually, through journaling, in pairs, or in small
groups...
1. (7/27) In Isaiah 58, the prophet names the short comings in the people's fasting. Are there spiritual practices we carry out today that are undone by our own short comings? If so, what is the practice and how do we come up short?
2. Isaiah 58 redefined what kind of fasting the Lord is looking for. In what ways do we practice this kind of fasting today?
3. Isaiah 59 names the connection between injustice and sin. What does this mean for us in our time as we wrestle with sin and injustice?
4. Isaiah 59 suggests that it was after the Lord found no one to act that the Lord stepped in. So often we hear or ask questions about why God does not seem to be acting, yet perhaps God is waiting on us to act. What would it look like for us to act in those situations?
5. Compare and contrast Isaiah 59:16-20 and Ephesians 6:11-20.
6.
May the Lord bless and shape us through our individual reading and corporate study of His word this year.
