On Saturday, I got up early and went to a coaches meeting for the West Liberty Soccer Association at the Lion's park. I will be coaching Maggie's 6U and Elam's 10U teams this fall. Josiah will also be playing in 4U, but I will not be coaching him. After the meeting, we drove up to Beth's parents house to spend a few days and to celebrate, Beth's and her Grandma Hardman's birthdays. That evening, we went to church with her parents and Beth sang the special music. When we got back, we ate supper together and watched some of the Olympics as a huge storm came through the area.
Then all but Beth's mom, Grandma and Silas went to the Mudhens game. We were a little late getting in, but it turned out to be a historic night. We were present for the longest game ever at 5/3 Field! After 19 innings and 6.5 hours, the game ended with the Mudhens loosing 10-9. No one scored from the 10th- 18th innings and then there were 5 runs in the 19th inning! We not only had the 7th inning stretch but also the 14th inning stretch and we were entertained by not only Muddy and Mudona, but also The Famous San Diego Chicken! On course, you know that the game is going long when the entertainment birds go to their roosts for the night and the grounds crew start serving as entertainment by dancing to the music as they do their work. In the end, we saw two games for the price of one! It turns out that it was also a historic night because Curiosity landed on Mars that night!

Monday, we got up and packed the van. Then we drove to the Engle's house. They invited us to stay for a few days and to go to Sauder Village as a family. That evening, we hung out together and Elam did some exploring at the neighbor's. In the process, he got a nail in his foot. So after supper, we took the other kids to a park to play while Elam went to the Emergicare to get it looked at. Thankfully, all he needed was an antibiotic.
Tuesday, we slept in a bit and then extended our historic weekend by going back into history at Sauder Village. We went to a number of their buildings up front, rode the train, saw the glass blower and potter in action and fed the calves. We came back and took afternoon naps before going to the community meal at Zion Mennonite. They are hosting the meal each week, but churches in the area are taking turns providing the food. Then we went to play at another park which was followed by watching a movie and more of the Olympics.
Wednesday, we got up and packed before going to a second day at Sauder Village. The second day, we went to the back part where they had native American and early settler displays and look through the museum building. From there, we headed home and unpacked. That night we had pizza and watched a movie. It was a historic weekend with a record breaking baseball game, the landing of Curiosity and touring Sauder Village.
