Some House Guests

Pastor's Log- Sabbatical Date: 2-3-12 - 22:15

On Thursday, we spent time regrouping and cleaning in the morning.  My older two and I went to pick some extra corn that a couple from our congregation had grown.  Then we were excited to host a young adult friend of ours, Bess, for an overnight stay.  We got to know her when we lived in the Pandora/Bluffton area and spent a lot of time with her during our last sabbatical at Camp Friedenswald in 2006.  She was also on staff there that summer.  I did some work on our garden and the community garden and we shucked the corn.  We had BLTs for supper with tomatoes from our garden and went to the Lion's Park for a bit.  Then we had ice cream and put the kids to bed.  Beth, Bess, and I watched Captain America on Netflix.

On Friday, I got up and worked out before doing some gardening.  Then we went with Bess to the Ohio Caverns thanks in large part to a Christmas gift from a couple in our congregation.  We have been here for 4 years now and had not gone to the caverns yet.  I went in the 5th grade on a field trip and my oldest went with his class this last fall but we had not been recently or as a family.  Afterward, we had dinner together and Bess headed home.

On Saturday, my oldest had an appointment and I did some work in the garden and some reading.  That night, my oldest had a friend come over to spend the night.

On Sunday morning around 5am, Beth and I took turns getting up and going into the back yard to watch the Perseids.  Later that morning, we went to church at the United Church of Christ across the street.  That afternoon, I mowed the lawn and did some work on the garden in preparation for my upcoming week away.  Then I read, took a nap, and worked on cleaning the basement a bit after moving all of the older kids toys down there.  Before going to bed, I did some packing to prepare for my departure in the morning.
