A Rode Weekend

Pastor's Log - Sabbatical Date: 2-2-8 - 21:30
(A recap of the lead up to our week of camping)

Thursday morning I slept in and then went for another blood test.  Then we packed the van to head up to Perrysburg to visit Beth's parents.  We met my parent's briefly along the way to make an exchange in Kenton.  As we were driving north of Findlay on I-75, we were flipping through radio stations and caught a weather alert about a major thunderstorm.  It turns out that we were going to be driving into it as we entered Perrysburg.  The further north we  got, the more evident this became.  Not sure why we were doing that two days in a row, but it all worked out alright.  When we got to the house, we waited in the van a bit for the worst to pass and then unloaded in the garage.  We had supper together and then went to the park for the kids to play for a bit before getting ice cream.  It turned into a beautiful evening.

Friday was a lazy, restful day with the family.  That afternoon, we did some shoe shopping and got new shoes for me as well as school shoes for Elam and Maggie.  That evening, we had some awesome BBQ ribs that Beth's dad grilled.  Then Beth and I took Joel and Micah to see the new Spider-man movie and stuck around to watch Men in Black 3.  That made for a late night, but it was fun.

On Saturday, we took our time getting around and packing things up.  On our way out of Perrysburg, we stopped at the Bass Pro Shop to get Elam a better fishing pole.  His Shrek pole just wasn't cutting it and he reached his goal on working on his math facts.  It was quite a cross cultural experience for me not being a fisherman or a hunter of any kind.  From there we drove home.  Once there, we began packing for our camping week.

Sunday, we went to worship at Grace Chapel.  That afternoon we did more packing and I worked on resolving the electrical connection for the camper that we are borrowing.  It requires a six prong plug.  Our garage wired our van with the standard four prong plug and then made an adapter.  Unfortunately, they made it with a male end which is the same end that the camper has so they wouldn't connect.  I drove to Columbus to buy the right part.  When I went to rewire the adapter, I realized that I wasn't going to be able to make as solid of connections as they did, so I went to Wal-mart and bought an adapter kit.  I then made my own adapter; but even then when I tried hooking everything up, it wasn't working properly.  The left turn signal wasn't working.  I used a volt meter to trace the problem back to the van wiring.  All that work and it still didn't work.
